State-Level X Number Burden Across Time Aggregation Ranges in U.S. Suicide Mortality Data
An interactive map visualizing changes in data completeness (suppression burden) across states and reporting ranges, highlighting how aggregation improves visibility in suicide surveillance. Years/Ranges used include all years or ranges from 1999-2020, dating back 2020 (ex: so 1 year data contains 22 years of data, but 3 year range shows all 3 year ranges from 2018-2020. This set includes only the beta test range data, and does not include rolling range data.

Distribution of Data Completeness (X Number) Across Oklahoma Counties by Range Type
Proportion of 1-, 3-, 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20-year reporting windows suppressed due to small counts Figure Description: This figure illustrates the distribution of suicide data completeness (X Number) across Oklahoma counties for multiple reporting ranges. For each county, the X Number represents the proportion of time windows within that range type (e.g., all 3-year windows between 2000–2020) where data were suppressed due to small counts. A higher value indicates that a county’s data were missing or suppressed more often across time. The boxplots summarize how suppression frequency varies among counties. As shown, annual (1-year) data are frequently suppressed across many counties, while longer aggregation ranges (5–20 years) show much lower suppression rates—indicating more complete and stable data coverage over time.
