DATA 607 Project 1: Chess Tournament Data Transformation
This project converts a semi-structured chess tournament text file into a tidy CSV dataset suitable for import into a relational database. Each player’s name, state, tournament points, pre-tournament rating, and average pre-tournament rating of opponents are extracted from the original records.

Retrieving and Analyzing JSON Data Using R
NY Times API Code Base
This assignment uses the New York Times Most Popular API to retrieve article metadata in JSON format and analyze it in R. The research question is: Which news sections appear most frequently among the articles returned by the most-viewed endpoint for the previous seven days?
DATA 607 - NY Times API Analysis
This assignment will explore how the New York Times

Week2B_Classification Metrics
This codebase assignment demonstrates how to evaluate a binary classification model in R. I use the built-in iris dataset to classify flowers as virginica (positive class, 1) or versicolor (negative class, 0). I use logistic regression to estimate probabilities from sepal length and sepal width. I then evaluate out-of-sample predictions using a confusion matrix and five classification metrics.
Week 7 HTML and JSON file formats
This assignment explores HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) as two common formats for organizing and storing data. Using three books on personal finance and financial literacy, the project demonstrates how to create HTML and JSON files, import them into R as data frames using the rvest and jsonlite packages, and compare the results to determine whether both formats contain identical information.
Week 7: "HTML and JSON in Data Science"
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) are important technologies for organizing,
PROJECT 2 UPDATED
The focus of Project 2 is to practice the R packages tidyr and dplyr to prepare three different datasets for downstream analysis.
Data Tidying and Transformation, incorporating your existing data-cleaning code and adding two important techniques:
1. Window functions: row_number(), min_rank(), dense_rank(), percent_rank(), lag(), lead(), and cumsum().
2. Feature engineering: Creating new variables from existing variables to support downstream statistical analysis.
The code works with your three datasets: AI Usage, College Majors, and Student Dropout Risk. Because the actual column names have not been provided, the code uses numerical variables that exist in each dataset rather than assuming specific columns are available.
Week5A: Airline Delays
This project analyzes arrival delays for two airlines, Alaska Airlines and AM West, across five destinations: Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle.
