Regression is a commonly used technique to estimate the relationship between one or more independent variables and a dependent variable. Furthermore, the quality of this fit can be assessed to determine if the relationship is statistically significant. However, in practice it may also be valuable to ascertain if a certain intervention (i.e. the legislation of a new regulation or the discovery of a new treatment) had a meaningful impact on the relationship.
