Is Jumia Nudging Kenyans to Buy More — or Buy Smarter?
Jumia promises great deals and smarter shopping for Kenyans. But behind the flash sales and stock alerts lies a more subtle game: nudges that reward impulse over deliberation.
Where does my money really go — and what can Safaricom learn from a single user’s experience?
Mobile money is often celebrated in Kenya as a great equalizer. But beneath that narrative lie diverse user journeys — shaped by income volatility, academic calendars, and lifestyle shifts. While M-PESA has become an indispensable utility, it remains blind to the rhythms of individual lives. This project flips the script. Instead of aggregating millions of users into neat averages, it follows the digital footsteps of just one: a university student navigating semesters, strikes, internships — and financial constraints. By mining two years of personal M-PESA data, this study surfaces a powerful insight: the future of customer retention may lie in understanding the economic realities of the individual, not the segment.
Safaricom is still king, but does it rule the data market?
Safaricom has long reigned supreme in Kenya’s telecom landscape, but in a data-hungry, price-sensitive market, dominance is no longer guaranteed. As Telkom and Airtel roll out aggressively priced bundles, this analysis digs into who really delivers the most megabytes for every shilling—and whether Safaricom’s premium strategy can keep pace with shifting consumer expectations.
Can we understand churn before it happens?
This analysis explores the key factors influencing customer churn using logistic regression. Results show that customers with tech support or online security are significantly less likely to leave, while those with fiber optic internet or streaming services face higher churn odds. Odds ratios, confidence intervals, and annotated tables help reveal the behavioral patterns behind subscription choices.
Where we are now - and what it says about Safaricom's reach
Safaricom’s 5G rollout is gaining pace—but remains concentrated in a narrow urban corridor. This analysis maps every known 5G-enabled estate in Kenya, revealing a sharp geographic imbalance. With Nairobi far ahead of the rest, the data offers a glimpse into where digital infrastructure is landing—and where it isn’t.
Do where I live impact how much I pay for fuel?
This project takes a closer look at EPRA’s monthly fuel price releases to uncover the hidden patterns and inequalities behind the numbers. Through spatial and temporal analysis, I set out to answer two deceptively simple but impactful questions: 1. Does where I live affect how much I pay for fuel? 2. How volatile are fuel prices across towns over time? The findings are both revealing and troubling.

Are people still living longer?
Global life expectancy has risen dramatically over the past century, driven by medical advances, improved sanitation, and socioeconomic development. However, progress has been uneven. While some regions now see lifespans exceeding 80 years, others struggle to reach 70. Persistent gender gaps—with women consistently outliving men—and stark geographic disparities highlight how health outcomes remain deeply tied to social and structural factors. This analysis examines recent trends, testing whether longevity gains continue globally and exploring the roles of biology, geography, and policy in shaping how long we live. Using 2025 UN data, we assess statistical evidence for ongoing increases and identify the most significant divides in life expectancy worldwide.
Experiment on the effect of diet on early growth of chicks
An experiment was conducted to measure and compare the effectiveness of various feed supplements on the growth rate of chicks. Newly hatched chicks were randomly allocated into four groups, and each group was given a different feed supplement. The body weights of the chicks were measured at birth and every second day thereafter until day 20. They were also measured on day 21.

How is Airbnb really being used in and affecting the neighbourhoods in Cape Town, South Africa?
Airbnb claims to be part of the “sharing economy” and a disruptor to the hotel industry. However, data reveals that the majority of Airbnb listings in most cities are entire homes, many of which are rented out year-round. This trend raises concerns about its potential to disrupt housing availability and weaken community ties, as properties that could serve long-term residents are increasingly diverted toward short-term rentals.
